BJP leader Rupa Ganguly was taken into custody in Kolkata for allegedly obstructing the work of a local police station. Ganguly was protesting against the arrest of five individuals, who were accused of manhandling police officers during a recent demonstration.
The protests erupted following the tragic death of a class 9 student, who was run over by a payloader vehicle in the Bansdroni area. Locals expressed their outrage by gheraoing police officers, demanding accountability for the incident.
According to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, those arrested had been charged with specific offenses, and Ganguly was advised that legal remedies should be sought through the courts. Verma conveyed this information while overseeing security at major Durga Puja events in the city.
