Thousands of devotees enthusiastically participated in the 'Bahuda Yatra,' marking the return journey of the sibling deities - Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra - on Monday.
The chariot pulling, initially slated for 4 PM, commenced earlier with devotees chanting 'Jai Jagannath' and the rhythm of cymbals filling the air.
Puri's titular king, Gajapati Maharaj Divya Singha Deb, performed the 'cheerapahanra' ritual. The deities had left the Jagannath temple on July 7 for the Rath Yatra and were returning from the Gundicha temple.
Security was tight with 180 police platoons and 1,000 officers deployed. Adequate preparations ensured a smooth event as the deities were taken to their chariots in front of the Singha Dwar, with the 'Sunabesha' ritual scheduled for July 16.
