In a heartfelt letter addressed to his twin brother Vishal from an altitude of 17,200 ft, Captain Vikram Batra, who signed off as Luv, described the harsh cold and the heroic capture of Point 5,140 during the Kargil War. He mentioned being recommended for the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest military decoration. Just two weeks later, on July 7, 1999, Batra sacrificed his life trying to save a fellow soldier during the battle of Point 4,875. His communication, along with letters from other Indian Army bravehearts who perished during the war, are on display at an exhibition at Rajiv Chowk metro station.

Organized by the National Book Trust (NBT) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the exhibition marks the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Additional letters from Major Padmapani Acharya, Captain Vijayant Thapar, Captain Saurabh Kalia, and Major CB Dwivedi, provided by the Indian Army, are also featured. Each letter provides a glimpse into the personal sacrifices and professional hazards faced by the soldiers.

The exhibit is divided into three sections featuring the letters, classified battleground photos, and pictures of fallen soldiers. Milind Sudhakar Marathe, chairperson of NBT, emphasized the importance of remembering these sacrifices, while DMRC's Anuj Dayal highlighted the exhibition's aim to inspire younger generations through these powerful memories. The exhibition will conclude on Vijay Diwas, July 26.
