In a significant move, over 5,700 pilgrims embarked on their journey to the Amarnath shrine from Jammu, officials reported on Wednesday. This new wave of devotees is part of a larger influx, with more than 74,000 pilgrims having already completed their pilgrimage this season.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented to ensure a safe journey for the worshippers. Notably, the pilgrims are escorted by security vehicles. Moreover, a state-of-the-art surveillance system and an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) monitor logistics, weather conditions, and coordinate real-time assistance, ensuring the journey is as smooth as possible.
Despite the arduous conditions, the yatra, which commenced on June 29, remains fervent and vibrant. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch, and since then, over 31,826 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp. The yatra is set to conclude on August 19, during which it aims to surpass last year's record of 4.5 lakh pilgrims who paid obeisance at the cave shrine.
