On the second day of the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas, nearly 15,000 devotees paid their respects, officials reported.

The total number of pilgrims for the first two days of the Yatra has now surpassed 28,000.

According to officials, a total of 14,717 pilgrims had the darshan of the ice lingam in the Amarnath cave on Sunday. This included 9,979 male pilgrims, 3,439 female pilgrims, over 1,000 security personnel, 83 children, and two transgenders.

The pilgrimage began on Saturday from the twin tracks: the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal. The 52-day pilgrimage is set to conclude on August 19.

Last year, more than 4.5 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine.
