Judicial Intervention: Teachers’ Grant Restoration Ordered Amid DEI Cutbacks
A federal court halted the Trump administration's move to cancel teacher preparation grants pivotal for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in eight states. Judge Myong Joun ruled in favor of eight states challenging the U.S. Department of Education's decision, emphasizing the consequences of grant termination on educational programs and staffing.

A federal judge on Monday temporarily restored grants for teacher preparation programs in eight states, countering efforts by President Donald Trump's administration to cut diversity-focused initiatives. U.S. District Judge Myong Joun in Boston issued the ruling after Democratic attorneys general from eight states challenged the federal government's decision.
The grants, associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, were halted without individualized analysis or a detailed explanation, according to Judge Joun. He noted that without these funds, essential educational programs and staffing are at risk.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta hailed the ruling as a vital step to ensuring continued support for quality teachers. The Education Department, criticized for labeling the initiatives as divisive, had not provided an immediate response.
