The World Bank has unveiled a groundbreaking Gender Strategy 2024-2030 targeting women's economic empowerment globally. Announced at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Washington, the strategy seeks to enable 300 million additional women to access broadband internet by 2030.
A key component of the strategy is the extension of social protection programs to support 250 million women, particularly focusing on those most impoverished and vulnerable. The initiative further aims to provide capital to 80 million women and women-led businesses, actively addressing constraints that hinder the growth of entrepreneurship.
Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, emphasized the far-reaching impact of these initiatives, stating that enhancing women's economic participation is crucial not only for global economic growth but also for strengthening community and family structures.
