Hong Kong tycoon Lee Seng Huang's yacht Scallywag 100 achieved a remarkable feat on Tuesday by becoming the first monohull vessel to complete the 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race. The yacht crossed the finish line after tackling the challenging 606-nautical-mile course, starting and ending in Valletta, Malta, in two days, 21 hours, 33 minutes, and 29 seconds.

Despite clinching the Monohull Line Honours, this achievement does not guarantee an overall win, which is determined by corrected time, factoring in each yacht's handicap. The race is renowned for its strenuous course around Sicily, attracting a global fleet and standing among the elite offshore regattas such as the Fastnet and the Sydney Hobart Yacht Races.

Under the command of Australian skipper David Witt, Scallywag, a supermaxi yacht, was tipped as a favourite in the monohull category, braving varying Mediterranean weather and tough competition from other top entries. The Middle Sea Race, first inaugurated in 1968, follows a circular route that famously passes two active volcanoes, Mount Etna and Stromboli.
