Delhi University plans to challenge a Rs 1 crore compensation imposed by the High Court for defacement cleaning during student elections, seeking an exemption from the ruling, according to a varsity official.
The compensation followed a claim by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which reported Rs 1 crore in cleaning expenses across 12 zones. The court had ordered Delhi University to cover this cost, suggesting recovery could come from contesting candidates.
University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh emphasized the financial strain and stated an appeal would be made. Meanwhile, student organizations like ABVP and NSUI have urged a swift resolution in the students' interest.
