The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) is set to seek intervention from the university's Chancellor Kanwal Sibal and President Droupadi Murmu regarding delays and denials of faculty promotions, according to an announcement on Saturday.

This long-standing issue has prompted numerous protests from the teachers' body. JNUTA President Moushumi Basu stated the association plans to submit a detailed statement of charges highlighting six major concerns: promotion backlogs, unexplained suspensions, service benefit denials, irregular appointments, favoritism, and a lack of transparency in the promotion process.

The controversy stems from promotions and appointments under the University Grants Commission's Career Advancement Scheme, a recurring point of conflict between JNUTA and university administration. A faculty assembly held on Friday saw JNUTA presenting its grievances to members of the Executive Council, the institution's highest decision-making body, although not all members attended.

Following a 24-hour hunger strike on August 12, this assembly served as a follow-up. The JNUTA hopes to escalate the matter further, urging the Chancellor and the university Visitor to raise it in the Parliament.
