Over 40,000 Appointments in Education Sector: Expansion of Professors of Practice

The Central government has appointed over 40,000 individuals to vacant positions in the education sector over the past 4-5 years, as stated by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The introduction of Professors of Practice aims to bring industry expertise into higher academic institutions. This move is part of the New Education Policy to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

The Central government has significantly bolstered the education sector by filling over 40,000 vacant posts in the last 4-5 years, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

In a bid to integrate industry expertise into academia, the government has introduced the system of Professors of Practice (PoP). These positions, while not permanent, are designed to bring seasoned professionals into higher education institutions like IITs.

Under the New Education Policy, this initiative supports the growing consensus that competency should accompany degrees. The goal is to shift education towards fostering employability and entrepreneurship, necessitating a strong link between industry and academic sectors.
