Russian forces have initiated a substantial counter-offensive against Ukrainian troops who breached the western borders of Russia last month. Pro-Moscow war bloggers claim that Russian forces have reclaimed some territory.
Ukraine launched its biggest foreign attack on Russia since World War Two on Aug. 6, crossing into the Kursk region with thousands of troops, supported by drones and heavy weaponry, including Western arms. Influential pro-Russian military bloggers, including Yuri Podolyaka, Rybar, and the Two Majors, reported on the counter-offensive, detailing gains made by Russian forces.
According to Podolyaka, Russian troops have recaptured several villages west of the area penetrated by Ukrainian forces, pushing them east of the Malaya Loknya River. Due to reporting restrictions on both sides, Reuters could not independently verify these battlefield reports. The Russian defense ministry provided limited information, and Ukraine has not yet commented.
