A new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus will be established in Rivona, South Goa, as confirmed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday.

In a written statement to the assembly, Sawant indicated that the Central government's site selection committee had inspected and approved the location, contingent upon the state government ensuring proper connectivity, and providing necessary amenities such as roads, power, and water supply. Additionally, changes in land zoning and relaxation of the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) requirements are needed.

Presently, the revenue department is verifying the land's title documents. The site in Rivona was chosen after earlier locations faced resident opposition. IIT Goa, being of national importance, is expected to create job opportunities for teaching and non-teaching staff, including locals. The government guarantees environmental safeguards during the approval process to protect the green cover.
