Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially launched four-year undergraduate programmes across all universities in the state on Monday, marking a milestone in the higher education sector. These new programmes aim to bring transformative changes, focusing on skill development, employment training, and knowledge generation.

Vijayan stated that conventional learning modes have evolved, and higher education now encompasses skill development and employment training. The revised undergraduate courses are designed to align with global shifts in the education sector, which is a top priority for the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the new reforms would significantly alter the content and structure of the higher education sector. The four-year programmes will incorporate online platforms, practical training, and field visits equally, he explained during the inauguration at the Government College for Women.

Highlighting a dual approach of knowledge generation and skill development, Vijayan noted that students would have the freedom to design their own courses and curricula under the new system. He added that the current changes in teaching, learning, and evaluation are just the beginning, with future plans to restructure existing programmes.

Vijayan also mentioned that infrastructure development is a key component of these educational reforms, with student freedom being a core aspect.
