Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Saturday urged industries to take the lead in establishing skill development institutes to create a workforce that meets industry standards.

Addressing the CII-Industry Academia Conclave in Nagpur, Gadkari emphasized the critical need for cooperation between industry and academia to cultivate skilled manpower. 'Coordination between industry and academia is essential for the skill development of students and enhancing manpower,' he stated.

Gadkari advocated for industries to establish their own skill development centers and educational institutions, such as engineering and polytechnic colleges, to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. He acknowledged the current mismatch between the availability of skilled manpower and the high unemployment rate among educated individuals, attributing it to the lack of communication and coordination between educational institutions and industries. 'I am of the opinion that step by step, deemed industries should establish their own skill development centers, engineering and polytechnic colleges, which will impart knowledge as well practical experience making the students more skilful,' he said.

Additionally, he urged industries to tailor their training programs to match their specific needs and encouraged collaboration with both deemed and private universities. Highlighting regional development, Gadkari mentioned that the Reliance-Dassault plant in Nagpur will start exporting Rafale jets globally within two years, and the Falcon business jet will also be manufactured entirely at this plant. He also stressed the importance of wealth creation in agriculture and tribal areas for overall development.
