Experts say Belt and Road Initiative can help Ghana achieve infrastructure development

Ghana is strictly fixing its eyes on the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve a major part of its infrastructure development objectives.

According to Yoofi Grant, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center, China’s notion of developing trade lines along infrastructure is very important for Ghana, which is strategic about it.

Yoofi Grant, who made the remarks on May 6 during the announcement of the 2019 China Trade Week to be held next month in Ghana’s capital, Accra, added that China’s notion of developing trade lines along infrastructure was important for Ghana, which is strategic about it.

Grant said he was confident that as the government embarks on the ‘Ghana beyond Aid’ agenda, China will become a willing partner in achieving major railway, road network, and port developments.

Speaking about the China Trade Week, Grant pointed out that China is not only Ghana’s largest trading partner but also the largest provider of Foreign Direct Investment in terms of the number of investments, as reported by Xinhua.

Zahoor Ahmed, International Events Director of MIE Groups, organizers of the upcoming China Trade Week, said the fair had been creating partnerships between Chinese manufacturers and Ghanaian businessmen.

The China Trade Week will explore opportunities in varied sectors including manufacturing and construction, clothing and textiles, printing materials and packaging to mention a few. “The Chinese investors have found out that the ease of doing business in Ghana is more favourable than in other African countries and that's why we see a phenomenal growth of business coming to Ghana,” Zahoor Ahmed, opined.
