The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has passed grants amounting to more than Rs 9,953 crore, aimed at bolstering seven critical sectors, including agriculture and horticulture. This move marks a significant step in enhancing infrastructure and ensuring direct benefits for farmers through targeted programs.
Agriculture Production Minister Javid Ahmad Dar revealed that these financial allocations include Rs 2,583.69 crore for the agriculture sector and Rs 4,754.85 crore for rural development. Dar emphasized the vital role agriculture plays in Jammu and Kashmir's economy, contributing 18% to the State's GDP, with horticulture leading at 41%.
A range of schemes, including the High-Density Plantation initiative and several dairy development programs, are underway to raise productivity and income. The government also plans to expand irrigation networks and improve water efficiency, aiming to transform J&K's agrarian economy significantly over the next few years.
