India and the United States are poised to finalize the foundations of a new bilateral trade agreement (BTA) during upcoming talks, which commence this Tuesday for a three-day period. The move is expected to enhance economic ties, with phase one focusing primarily on goods trade.

A team led by Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch is set to arrive in India from March 25-29 to carry forward discussions, ensuring that both nations can streamline tariffs and regulations. The aim is to arrive at a mutual understanding by fall 2025.

With ambitions to double bilateral trade volumes to USD 500 billion by 2030, the agreement seeks to address high tariffs on US goods, enhance predictability in trade practices and culminate in a robust economic partnership.
