In a tragic incident in northern Pakistan, a bus transporting a wedding procession collided with disaster after plunging into the Indus River. The accident claimed the lives of 14 individuals, as confirmed by Gilgit Baltistan authorities. Twelve passengers remain missing, while one individual miraculously survived, albeit with injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that speed and loss of vehicular control contributed to the accident. The bus was en route to Pakistan's Chakwal district from Telchi bridge in Diamer district when it veered off course, tumbling into the river.
This unfortunate event shines a spotlight on the perilous state of road safety in Pakistan, a country where traffic regulations are frequently flouted and rural road conditions are notoriously poor. The month of August alone witnessed two other devastating bus accidents in the northeast and southwest, culminating in 34 fatalities.
