In a bid to enhance road safety, Maruti Suzuki India Limited is collaborating with the Government of Bihar's Transport Department to automate five driving license test tracks across the state. These tracks will be set up in Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia, and Saran, as confirmed by Maruti Suzuki.
The partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement in the presence of Sheela Kumari, Bihar's Transport Minister, and Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Secretary of Bihar's Transport Department. The ceremony also saw attendance from Navin Kumar, State Transport Commissioner, and Tarun Agarwal, Maruti Suzuki's Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility.
The introduction of Automated Driving Test Tracks marks a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki's Corporate Social Responsibility mission to enhance road safety. This initiative aims to eliminate human intervention in the testing process, ensuring a more streamlined and transparent evaluation for driving license applicants. The tracks are equipped with high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems to deliver standardized tests in compliance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
Bihar's Transport Minister Sheela Kumari has praised Maruti Suzuki's efforts, highlighting the positive outcomes in regions like Aurangabad and Patna where similar initiatives have been implemented. She emphasized the role of these test tracks in licensing drivers who are duly qualified, thereby promoting safer roads.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, reiterated the company's dedication to road safety through its ongoing collaboration with Bihar, which began in 2018 with the establishment of the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research in Aurangabad. He highlighted the importance of automated license testing as part of the 'evaluation' pillar in road safety.
This collaboration is part of Maruti Suzuki's expansive roadmap to automate driving test tracks nationwide. With 27 tracks already automated across states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, the addition of these five in Bihar potentially raises the total to 44 across India. This robust initiative aims to ensure drivers possess essential skills and knowledge before obtaining licenses, aligning with efforts to reduce accidents and enforce responsible driving.
