Urgent Call to Address Impending Hunger Crisis in Gaza
The U.N. World Food Program is urging immediate intervention to prevent a famine in Gaza. The region is facing severe aid restrictions, worsened by Israeli controls. There are 94,000 tonnes of food ready in Egypt and Jordan but hindered by limited and unsafe entry points into Gaza.
The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) issued an urgent call for action on Tuesday to prevent a looming famine in the Gaza Strip. The agency indicated that escalating restrictions on aid could soon exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.
A recent global monitor alert noted that the entire Palestinian enclave faces famine risks, with Israeli military operations further complicating aid access. The WFP stressed that worsening conditions in northern Gaza threaten to impact a larger population unless the situation on the ground improves.
Despite having 94,000 tonnes of food ready in Egypt and Jordan, enough to feed a million people for four months, WFP reported difficulties in delivering these resources due to limited and unsafe entry points into Gaza. Current restrictions have allowed only 5,000 tonnes into the territory this month.
