Chinese aircraft manufacturer COMAC has inaugurated a new office in Singapore, according to an announcement by China's embassy in the city-state. This move is part of COMAC's strategy to penetrate the global passenger jet market, primarily controlled by Western brands.
The office launch is seen as a significant milestone for the state-owned company in its efforts to expand overseas, as highlighted by China's ambassador to Singapore, Cao Zhongming, during the inauguration ceremony.
COMAC aims for steady progress in international markets, especially with its C919 narrow-body passenger plane, which compares to Boeing's 737 MAX and Airbus's A320neo models. However, it still faces challenges in gaining certification from the European Union and the United States.
