Bihar marked a significant advancement on Monday with the inauguration of its first Dry Port and Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Bihta near Patna, officiated by the state's Industries Minister Nitish Mishra. The new facility is projected to enhance logistics capabilities, providing warehousing and customs services to optimize multi-modal transport operations.
In a statement to the press, Minister Mishra emphasized the transformative impact of the facility, noting that previously exporters and importers had to handle customs processes across states, often thousands of kilometers away. This local shift promises to empower Bihar's participation in global markets significantly.
The ICD Bihta boasts strong rail connectivity to major ports such as Kolkata, Haldia, Visakhapatnam, and Mundra, functioning as a central hub for the state's industrial import and export operations. As Mishra highlights, the depot is pivotal in aligning Bihar's agricultural prowess with industrial growth, enhancing trade in commodities like maize, litchi, and packaged goods.
