In a move to boost regional connectivity, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity Express, a daily service intended to ease travel for residents of Jharkhand. The new train covers 350 km in seven hours, offering passengers a cost-effective alternative to road travel, with fares at just Rs 125 compared to the typical Rs 700 to Rs 800 road fare.

This initiative is expected to enhance not only travel ease but also boost business opportunities and employment in Jharkhand, according to the Railway Ministry. The addition of a stop for the Anand Vihar-Agartala Tejas Rajdhani Express at Sahibganj is also set to benefit the region, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local population.

Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the historic significance of the Santhal Pargana region and praised the substantial increase in Jharkhand's railway budget under Prime Minister Modi's administration. From Rs 450 crores a decade ago to Rs 7,300 crores now, the investment signifies a 16-fold increase aimed at fostering development across the state.
