Air India Expands Fleet with Major Airbus Order

Air India has placed a significant order for 85 additional Airbus aircraft, including 10 A350s, as part of its expansion strategy. This increases Air India's order tally for the year, adding to its existing 470 aircraft acquisition plan with Airbus and Boeing. The Tata Group-owned carrier aims to bolster its operational capacity with this move.

In a strategic move to bolster its fleet, Air India has ordered 85 more aircraft from Airbus, a decision not officially confirmed by either party. This acquisition includes 75 narrow-body A320 family planes and 10 wide-body A350s, according to industry sources.

The increase in orders is a continuation of Air India's February 2023 announcement, where the airline opted to purchase 250 planes from Airbus, with an option to expand the acquisition. With this latest order, the Tata Group-owned airline is utilizing this option.

This move aligns with statistics shared by Airbus, which reported receiving orders for 667 aircraft by September 2023, including a notable September 5 order for 85 planes. This order reportedly links back to Air India's expansion plans.
