Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday paid rich tributes to Ratan Tata, acknowledging his influential role over four decades in shaping India's corporate sector.

Tata, who spearheaded the Tata conglomerate's readiness for post-1991 economic reforms, breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, marking an end to a formidable chapter in Indian business history.

A recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, Tata was remembered fondly by Ramesh for his philanthropy and visionary leadership, especially during the challenging transition period following JRD Tata.
