Delay in Approval: Railways S&T Workers Await Risk Allowance

The Indian Railway S&T Maintainers' Union (IRSTMU) is pressing for the approval of a 'Risk and Hardship Allowance' for Signal and Telecom staff. Despite ongoing discussions between the Railway Ministry and the Finance Ministry, the allowance remains unapproved since 2019, causing frustration among union members.

In a prolonged quest for fair compensation, the Indian Railway S&T Maintainers' Union (IRSTMU) awaits approval for the 'Risk and Hardship Allowance'. The allowance proposal for Signal and Telecom staff is stalled with the Ministry of Finance, despite persistent efforts by union leaders since 2019.

Alok Chandra Prakash, IRSTMU's general secretary, highlighted the dangerous conditions faced by workers, emphasizing the urgent need for approval. He criticized the government's sluggish response, pointing out incidents where workers faced life-threatening dangers on duty without adequate compensation.

With the committee's report sent to the Finance Ministry, the union continues to demand a swift resolution. As workers' safety hangs in balance, the union calls for immediate government action to recognize their sacrifices and ensure their well-being through the long-awaited allowance.
