The Railway Board has announced an extension of its engagement scheme for ex-servicemen employed as gatemen on a contractual basis. Initially set to conclude on September 30, the scheme will now run until December 31.

In an October 1 circular, the Railway Board noted that the scheme, relating to both the Civil and Traffic departments, had been extended by three months. 'This extension is in response to the ongoing need for gatemen against the vacancies, emphasizing existing terms and conditions,' the circular stated.

The Board clarified that these engagements should be periodically reviewed and phased out as regular employees are recruited. Monitoring at the zonal level remains critical for assessing actual requirements and ensuring smooth transitions, according to the circular.
