Congress Calls Out Government’s Job Growth Claims

The Congress has dismissed the government's claims of creating eight crore jobs between 2021 and 2024, citing them as half-truths. Party leader Jairam Ramesh argues that the stats include unpaid household work and informal jobs, with true job creation remaining stagnant. He also criticizes the government's economic policies.

The Congress on Monday dismissed the government's assertions of creating eight crore employment opportunities between 2021 and 2024 and 6.2 crore net subscribers joining the EPFO database as 'half-truths,' emphasizing that 2014-24 was marked by 'jobloss growth'.

Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, in a statement, highlighted the economic downturn and disparaged the 'non-biological PM' for attempting solace in questionable economic records, particularly employment statistics. Ramesh cited that the reporting involved counting unpaid household work as employment, overstating the government's success.

Ramesh further criticized the KLEMS data and population estimates, arguing they overstate job creation. Despite claims of 6.2 crore new EPFO subscribers, he attributed the rise to better registration processes and inclusion of existing contractual workers, not new jobs.
