Chief Minister M K Stalin, currently touring the United States, engaged with Ford Motor officials in Chicago to explore the potential of reestablishing the company's operations in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government announced this development on Wednesday.
On September 10, 2024, Stalin met top executives, including Kay Hart, President of Ford's International Markets Group, pushing for the revival of car manufacturing and the expansion of their global center in Chennai. Ford had ceased production at its local plant several years ago.
In a social media update on 'X,' Stalin called the discussions 'very engaging' and expressed hope for renewing Ford's decades-long partnership with Tamil Nadu. The chief minister also met with Jagadeesh Mosali of IT Serve Alliance, urging IT firms to invest in the state. During his visit, Tamil Nadu signed MoUs worth approximately Rs 7,016 crore with 16 major companies in San Francisco and Chicago.
