Union Minister Applauds Tamil Nadu's Rural Development Success
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed Tamil Nadu's rural development initiatives, praising progress in infrastructure and employment. Focusing on schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY, and rural roads, he stressed continued central support under PM Modi. He urged swift completion of projects to uplift rural communities.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, recently conducted a thorough review of Tamil Nadu's ongoing rural development initiatives. During his visit, he expressed admiration for the state's efforts in enhancing rural infrastructure and creating livelihood opportunities for its residents.
"Tamil Nadu is one of India's leading states in development," Chouhan stated, highlighting its significant role in the nation's progress. He credited the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for consistent support in fostering Tamil Nadu's growth. Chouhan reiterated that the Union Government is committed to aiding the state's rural development programs.
During the review, Chouhan emphasized several crucial schemes, particularly the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). "Last fiscal, 12,603 crores were allocated to Tamil Nadu under MGNREGA to provide employment," he noted, adding that 7,220 crores have been released this year to prevent unemployment. MGNREGA continues to play a key role in combating rural unemployment, supporting millions of families financially.
Chouhan also highlighted advancements under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme, crucial for improving rural connectivity. Tamil Nadu has tendered for 10,352 roads, totaling 26,500 kilometers. "9,681 roads covering 23,579 km, and 150 bridges have been completed," he said, noting ongoing work. This scheme aims to enhance rural infrastructure, boosting economic growth in remote areas.
Additionally, attention was drawn to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), focusing on affordable housing for the poor. "Tamil Nadu aims to construct 8,15,771 houses, with 7,47,542 approved," Chouhan stated, expressing confidence in timely completion and urging accelerated construction efforts by the state.
Chouhan commended the Mahila Shaktikaran Yojana's success, empowering women through self-help groups. "In Tamil Nadu, nearly 10 lakh women have become Lakhpati Didis, earning over one lakh rupees each annually," he said. Chouhan affirmed the central government's backing of Tamil Nadu's rural schemes and urged swift project completion to benefit rural populations. (ANI)
