In response to mounting citizen protests over severe traffic issues on Ghodbunder Road, officials from multiple departments convened in Thane on Friday to explore solutions.

Thane civic chief Saurabh Rao assured that the traffic situation would soon improve, detailing both short-term and long-term strategies including the deployment of 100 additional traffic wardens and road enhancements such as improved lane markings, direction indicators and lighting. These wardens will be active during peak hours from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm.

Rao also emphasized the necessity of ensuring pothole-free roads and flyovers before the Ganpati Visarjan. The meeting, attended by officials from the police, metro rail, MMRDA, PWD, citizen groups, and local MLA Pratap Sarnaik, highlighted concerns over heavy vehicles, poor road conditions, illegal parking, and malfunctioning traffic signals, with a special focus on the safety of schoolchildren.

Local MLA Pratap Sarnaik mentioned that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had approved several projects to address these issues. Additionally, executive engineer Sanjay Kadam has been appointed as the nodal officer to coordinate with citizens and implement the necessary changes.
