In an era where cardiac surgery evokes fear due to the invasive nature of traditional procedures, Dr. Priyadarshan Konar, Consultant Cardio-Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon at Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, underlines the efficacy of Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB).

He explains that traditional sternotomies involve cutting the breast bone, which leads to severe post-operative pain and prolonged recovery periods. This deep-seated fear often prevents patients from opting for necessary surgeries, compelling them to choose less effective treatments like stents.

MIDCAB, however, eliminates the need for sternotomies by making small incisions between the ribs. This technique drastically reduces the recovery time, post-operative pain, and risk of complications, allowing patients to return home in as little as three days with minimal scarring.
