The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Monday gave the go-ahead for a new 309 km railway line project, set to offer the shortest rail route between Mumbai and Indore, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Estimated at Rs 18,036 crore and slated for completion by 2028-29, the project is expected to generate direct employment for about 102 lakh man-days during its construction phase. An official statement noted that this new line between Indore and Manmad will significantly enhance connectivity, mobility, and service efficiency for Indian Railways.

Rooted in the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, this project promises integrated planning for seamless movement of people, goods, and services. It aims to facilitate comprehensive regional development, augment tourism, and improve freight transport efficiency, thereby aligning with the broader vision of a self-reliant India.
