A catastrophic helicopter crash in northern Portugal claimed the lives of at least two individuals and left three missing. The aircraft, returning from a firefighting mission, plunged into the River Douro on Friday.
The pilot was dramatically rescued by a nearby tourism boat and is now recovering in a hospital with leg fractures. Onboard were five specialists from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit.
The accident's cause remains unknown. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro visited the crash site, where a robust search and rescue operation is underway, involving first responders, maritime police, divers, and two Air Force helicopters.
