The Delhi government is set to introduce breathalyser tests to curb alcohol-related bus accidents in the national capital. This initiative comes in response to recent mishaps involving DTC and cluster buses.

The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has issued a tender to procure high-precision breathalysers with digital LCD screens. These will initially be used at bus depots, targeting drivers before they commence their shift.

'Although there haven't been regular complaints of drunk driving, this is a precautionary step for passenger safety,' an official stated. Depending on the effectiveness, the program could expand to include on-road breath testing. Additionally, biometric face recognition systems will be installed to manage drivers working multiple shifts. Last month, a serious accident involving a DTC bus highlighted the urgent need for these measures.
