In a recent study, the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has shed light on the manifold challenges faced by section controllers in the Indian Railways. The comprehensive report identifies stress from heavy workload due to vacancies, unattractive pay scales, and the absence of basic amenities as primary issues.
The report, submitted to the Railway Board, proposes a series of measures to address these problems. These include upgrading the initial pay scale to make the position more attractive, revamping the selection process, and increasing the frequency of refresher courses for better skill and knowledge updates.
Additionally, the study recommends installing essential amenities like water purifiers and restrooms, and suggests introducing health programs such as yoga and meditation to tackle lifestyle-related health issues prevalent among section controllers.
