The accident occurred at around 3 am near Ataria Road along the Nainital highway when the victims were returning home from the district hospital after a check-up, according to the police.

The deceased include Jyoti, Urmila, Vibha, and the e-rickshaw driver Manoj, all residents of Bhura Rani. Jyoti had experienced labor pains late Tuesday night, prompting her family to take her to the hospital.

After a medical examination, doctors advised that the delivery would take another day and suggested returning home.

Their e-rickshaw, which was ferrying a total of six people, was hit by a car with an Uttar Pradesh number plate.
