A tragic incident occurred off the coast of Palermo, Sicily, where a luxury yacht named 'Bayesian' sank after being hit by a whirlwind, resulting in one death and six people missing, according to Italian media.
The 56-metre-long British-registered yacht was carrying 22 people, including British, American, and Canadian nationals. Italy's fire brigade and coast guard had deployed divers to search for the seven missing passengers and crew members.
Eight people, including a one-year-old child, were rescued and taken to local hospitals, with reports indicating they are in stable condition. The yacht, which can carry 12 guests and has a crew of up to 10, was last tracked east of Palermo with a navigation status of 'at anchor.' Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008, the vessel boasts an aluminium hull and a maximum speed of 15 knots.
