Twenty coaches of the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express passenger train derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur early Saturday. The incident occurred after the engine struck an object placed on the track, raising suspicions of anti-social involvement, as per railway officials.

Thankfully, no casualties were reported from the derailment, which disrupted traffic on the route between Kanpur and Bhimsen railway stations at around 2.35 am. As a result, seven trains were cancelled and three others diverted. Arrangements are being made to resume normal operations.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the Intelligence Bureau and Uttar Pradesh police are actively investigating the incident. Passengers were quickly attended to, with alternative transportation arranged to ensure they reached their destinations safely.
