The local authority in the Var region announced that an inquiry is underway to investigate the cause of the crash. The airshow was organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allied forces' D-Day landings in Provence.
The French Air Force's 'Patrouille de France' aerobatics team, which was also scheduled to perform, canceled its demonstration in light of the tragedy. The crash occurred just days after another aviation disaster in eastern France, where two military jets collided, killing two personnel.
