Eight individuals lost their lives and ten others were injured after a truck collided with a stationary vehicle filled with devotees in Haryana's Jind district, authorities reported on Tuesday.

The tragic incident happened shortly after midnight in Bidharana village along the Hisar-Chandigarh national highway, as the devotees journeyed from Kurukshetra district to a temple at Gogamedi in Rajasthan.

According to police, the truck, carrying wooden logs and registered in Rajasthan, struck the immobile vehicle. Station House Officer Kuldeep of the Sadar Narwana police station stated, “The truck rammed into the light commercial vehicle in which the group of devotees was headed to Gogamedi. At the time of the incident, the devotees had taken a brief halt and their vehicle was stationary.” Eight people, including two women and a 15-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene. Those injured were transported to nearby hospitals and later referred to Agroha in Hisar. The condition of the injured is currently stable.

Authorities have registered a case and impounded the truck. A relative of one injured individual mentioned that the truck hit the devotees' vehicle from behind. Many among the casualties were related, he said.
