Lucknow has emerged as the top city for gross leasable area (GLA) in shopping centres among 21 tier 2 cities in India, as per Knight Frank India's 'Think India, Think Retail 2024' report. The city boasts an impressive 5.7 million square feet of GLA, surpassing even major cities like Kolkata and Ahmedabad as of 2023.

This significant figure underscores Lucknow's role in the retail real estate sector, contributing 5 per cent to the total 125.1 million square feet of shopping centre stock across 29 surveyed Indian cities. Knight Frank India's survey covering 340 shopping centres, including in 21 tier-2 cities, highlights Lucknow's dominance in this sector.

Lucknow's GLA represents a substantial 18.4 per cent share of the total 30.8 million square feet among tier 2 cities, maintaining its prominent position in the market. With 5.7 million square feet, it leads second-ranked Kochi and Jaipur. Nationally, Lucknow ranks seventh in GLA, outperforming Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The city's shopping centres host over 580 retail outlets, reflecting its strong commercial infrastructure and growing retail market importance.
