Amid escalating political unrest in Bangladesh, the Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express services will not operate on Tuesday, the Eastern Railway announced. This follows a message from concerned authorities in Bangladesh.
These services, which have been on hold since July 19, are further suspended as Bangladesh faces a significant political upheaval. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday after protests that resulted in over 100 fatalities in just two days.
Authorities have confirmed that an interim government will be taking control, as declared by Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman. Similarly, the bi-weekly Kolkata-Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express has remained canceled since July 21 due to large-scale violent demonstrations.
