Tata Group's Rs 27,000 Crore Semiconductor Unit to Transform Assam into Electronics Hub

On Saturday, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the significance of the semiconductor industry during the 'bhoomi pujan' ceremony for Tata's new semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. With an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, part of the facility is anticipated to be operational by 2025.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who performed the 'bhoomi pujan' along with Chandrasekaran, stated that the facility is set to generate 15,000 direct and 11,000 to 13,000 indirect jobs. Chandrasekaran noted the ubiquitous role of chips in numerous sectors, emphasizing the industry's rapid technological advancements propelled by artificial intelligence.
Chandrasekaran expressed gratitude for the support received under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, detailing Tata's comprehensive involvement in India's electronics value chain, including facilities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat. The Assam unit is expected to further spawn a semiconductor ecosystem, attracting ancillary companies and fostering innovation. The project has also received positive affirmations from Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding its large-scale production capabilities and technological uniqueness.
