A significant number of flights to the Gulf from Kerala's airports were canceled between April and June 2024, as noted by Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu. The cancellations, affecting key airports including Calicut, Kannur, Cochin, and Thiruvananthapuram, amounted to around 4 per cent of the total scheduled flights.
Lawmakers from Kerala, particularly members of the Lok Sabha, have raised this issue, expressing concerns over the impact on the state's residents who work in Gulf countries. The minister cited various reasons for the cancellations, including weather, technical, and operational issues.
The minister also clarified that Air India canceled around 2 per cent of its scheduled flights to the Gulf during the same period. He emphasized that the government currently has no plans to intervene in airline fare regulations despite questions about increasing airfares.
