In a tragic incident, a Central Railway pointsman named Suraj Seth lost his life when he was crushed between a locomotive and a coach at Mumbai CSMT, an official reported on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at platform No. 16 during the coupling of the Mumbai-Bhubaneshwar Konark Express at approximately 3.10 pm on Monday. According to railway officials, Seth attempted to jump onto the track for shunting the locomotive when it failed to couple with the train in the first attempt.

Seth was fatally injured when he got trapped between the locomotive and a coach. It was noted that a supervisor should ideally be present during shunting operations, but he was absent at the time of the accident. A CR spokesperson confirmed the incident and the unfortunate passing of Seth. Coupling is a process that involves connecting a locomotive to a following coach and linking subsequent train compartments.
