Union Budget 2024-25: Major Boost for Home Affairs and Security Forces

The Union Budget 2024-25 announced on Tuesday earmarked Rs 2,19,643.31 crore for the Ministry of Home Affairs. A significant portion, Rs 1,43,275.90 crore, is allocated to central police forces such as CRPF, BSF, and CISF, tasked with internal security and border management.
The interim budget had earlier allocated Rs 2,02,868.70 crore to the home ministry, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has allocated Rs 42,277.74 crore specifically to Jammu and Kashmir, now under direct central government control post-Article 370 abrogation.
Additionally, funds are directed towards UTs including Rs 5,985.82 crore for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rs 5,862.62 crore for Chandigarh, Rs 5,958 crore for Ladakh, Rs 2,648.97 crore for Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Rs 1,490.10 crore for Lakshadweep.
The budget provisions also focus on strengthening internal security infrastructure, disaster management, and women's safety programs.
