Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has incurred civil penalties amounting to $190.7 million for failing to meet the U.S. fuel economy standards for the years 2019 and 2020. According to government documents reviewed by Reuters, the company still faces $459.7 million in outstanding penalties.

The penalties, which were paid in March and May, came to light through disclosures by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This agency oversees the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) program.

Both the automaker and the government agency confirmed to Reuters the calculation of the pending penalties. In 2023, Stellantis paid a record-setting $235.5 million covering the 2018 and 2019 model years, alongside $156.6 million for the 2016 and 2017 model years.
