A new online platform designed to register and resolve non-tariff barriers (NTBs) encountered by exporters is expected to roll out within the next 2-3 months, according to a senior government official on Friday.

Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce Rajesh Agrawal announced that the portal will address SPS (sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures) and TBT (technical barriers to trade) issues. It will gather feedback from exporters and develop resolution strategies. Agrawal chairs a task force dedicated to this initiative.

The platform will allow monitoring of efforts to resolve NTBs. India needs to expedite the removal of NTBs to achieve its export target of USD 1 trillion by 2030, as highlighted by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). Indian exports frequently face significant barriers in the EU, US, China, Japan, and Korea, impacting a wide array of products from agriculture to industrial goods.
